Jill Brownley
Makes Her Mark as CommuniTech's First Intern
Jill Brownley joined
the CommuniTech team on March 7 as a marketing and public relations
intern. The first intern to join CommuniTech, Jill is making her mark
supporting CommuniTech's staff with various projects that are helping
her gain practical, hands-on experience.
No stranger to
the professional world, Jill has honed her graphic design experience
for the last eight years at Bayer Corporation, where she currently designs
internal and external publications, newsletters, annual reports and
promotional pieces. The CommuniTech internship is helping her refine
the communications skills she has already obtained as she completes
her Practicum at Point Park College. (Jill will earn her bachelor's
degree in Corporate Communications in July 2001.)
"The opportunity
to intern at CommuniTech is helping grow my knowledge of journalism
and public relations," Jill said. "Making the transition from the design
field to communications will be challenging, but the experience I'm
gaining at CommuniTech will make this transition much smoother. It's
inspiring to work with such talented people."
Jill learned about
CommuniTech while developing an in-depth public relations plan to help
build awareness of the International Association of Business Communicators
(IABC) and help create a chapter at Point Park. Her public relations
professor at Point Park College, Camille Downing (who is also president
of IABC Pittsburgh), put Jill in touch with CommuniTech.
Jill's long-term
goal is to accept a public relations position at a world-class winery,
which would put to use a number of her interests and talents: her keen
communications experience, a passion for wine, and a blossoming fluency
in French.
"Mentoring communications
students who have a drive to succeed provides not only positive reinforcement,"
said Pam Selker Rak, president of CommuniTech, "but also ensures a stronger
workforce of professional communicators in Pittsburgh.
"We're glad Jill
could be a part of our team during her mutually rewarding internship,"
added Pam. "We wish her the very best for a bright future in the demanding
- but exciting - field of communications!"
